The studio in the winter

Land Acknowledgement Honouring the Mississaugas

I acknowledge that I, Karen Caruana, am a settler in this area and that I have the privilege to do the work that I do as a result of the Crawford Purchase of 1783, which, per se, was not a treaty. It was the acquisition of the traditional territory of the Mississaugas without obligations on the part of the British, such as yearly disbursements or gifts. I am grateful for this land, its beauty and its strength, and the inspiration it gives me to create meaningful work and community. I offer gratitude to our First Nations for their care for, and teachings about, our earth and our relations. May the work that I do and the values that I hold honour those teachings.

The Yoga Factory is located between Marmora and Springbrook, in a renovated former cheese factory situated on Karen’s property. Built in 1907, the former cheese factory stood empty for 50 years. In the summer of 2012, part of the building was renovated into a warm, sunny and inviting yoga studio.
Karen completed her 500-hour yoga teacher training in the discipline of Hatha Yoga in June 2015 at Wavelengths Yoga Studio and School, located in nearby Norwood. She has been teaching classes since September 2012.The studio is 8 km south of Marmora and 3 km north of Springbrook, at 214 St. Marks Rd., 1 km west of Hwy 14.
